Home-grown TV series are still capturing the imagination of Italians: so it comes as no surprise that the whole peninsula, from north to south, is one big open-air set this summer.
Let’s start in the north and Alto Adige, where San Candido and Lake Braies are being used to film the fifth season of Un passo dal cielo (Lux Vide, Rai Fiction), with Daniele Liotti in the role of the captain of the forest rangers. Trieste and the surrounding area are meanwhile back hosting the protagonists of the second season of La porta rossa (Vela Film, Rai Fiction), along with the production team for Canale 5’s new crime series Un bel luogo per morire, starring Ambra Angiolini and Giorgio Pasotti. Lignano Sabbiadoro and Liguria, on the other hand, will feature in the series L’amore strappato, starring Sabrina Ferilli, which is based on the true story of a woman looking for her daughter.
Staying in the north, Milan is the setting for La compagnia del cigno, the story of a group of teenagers attending a high school specialising in music, starring Alessio Boni as the headmaster of the school and Anna Valle, while Turin will be the setting for the Italian version of successful thriller series Liar, which is being produced by Mediaset and will star Alessandro Preziosi and Greta Scarano. The latest endeavour by Cinzia TH Torrini, entitled Pezzi Unici, will instead couple up Sergio Castellitto and Giorgio Panariello and will be shot in Prato and Florence.
In the capital, filming has just wrapped on Che Dio ci aiuti 5, in which Sister Angela (Elena Sofia Ricci) must come to terms with new characters and new stories, and filming is fully underway on the new season of Il Paradiso delle signore, which, with 180 new episodes, will be broadcast every day in the afternoon. In the Roman suburbs and near the Vela di Calatrava in Tor Vergata meanwhile, filming is underway on the highly-anticipated second season of Suburra, an original Netflix production directed by Andrea Malaioli.
Last but not least, moving to the islands, filming has just finished on the second series of L’isola di Pietro (Lux Vide), being filmed in Carloforte in Sardinia, and all-Sicilian scenarios are back with Rosy Abate (Taodue), starring Giulia Michelini ready to rebuild the relationship with her long lost son.
