MIA: Call for projects

MIA has opened the call for projects for its fifth edition, which will take place in Rome from October 16 to 20, 2019. Over the years, most of the projects presented at MIA have later taken off for success, being completed, distributed and well received by the audience, the industry and the festival circuit worldwide.

Established as a benchmark for the European and international players, the MIA Film Division has successfully led more than 50% of its selected projects to their completion. Among them:

The Mustang by Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre starring Matthias Schoenaerts was presented in preview at Sundance Film Festival 2019.

The Vice of Hope by Edoardo De Angelis during Rome Film Fest 2018 got the Bnl Audience Award. Success at the David di Donatello Awards as well, where Marina Gonfalone won as Best Supporting Actress.

Sally Potter’s The Party participated in the 67th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival, being awarded with the important Guild Film Prize.

After just two editions of the Drama Series Pitching Forum, the event has already successfully launched many projects, which have been greenlit and are now in production.

The Feed
The series was presented last year at Drama Series Pitching Forum, co-produced by all3media international and Studio Lambert and it has been bought by Amazon and Liberty Global. Presented in world preview at Canneseries 2019, the series has been written by Channing Powell, writer and producer of The Walking Dead and White Collar, and it is taken from the Nick Clark Windo’s homonym bestseller book. In the cast there are Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark in Game of Thrones) and the British actor David Thewlis, who got Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival 1993 for the movie Nacked and with a long career in cinema (Wonder Woman, Justice League, Avatar 2 e 3) and in television (Fargo, Big Mouth).

Survivors
The series, produced by Rodeo Drive, was presented at the 2017 Drama Series Pitching Forum and will be co-produced with the Alliance between RAI, France TV and ZDF. The collaboration between the three broadcasters has as its main objective to co-produce and develop innovative and high-quality tv series, based on European culture and values ​​and which can be globally competitive and recover the younger and most sophisticated audience. Survivors will be a mystery series (12×50′), whose shooting should begin in the first months of 2020. Last year another series presented in 2016 at the Drama Series Pitching Forum by Aurora TV has already entered in the development slate of Alliance, Eternal City.

The pleasure principle
The series (10×52’) presented at the 2017 Drama Series Pitching Forum is co-produced by Apple Film Production with CANAL+Poland, Czech TV and Star Media. Beta Film has recently announced that it is taking part to the project and will distribute the series worldwide.

Among the projects selected by the MIA DOC Division, some have significantly emerged: Vibrato, Day For Night Productions (France), who won the Nat Geo Award 2019; Tintoretto – The First Movie Director, Kublai Film (Italy), which enjoyed great international success and was bought in several countries, and The Great Forgotten, Pepito Produzioni (Italy), which aired on Rai.

Further details will be announced during MIA 2019 and new projects greenlit will be unveiled.
